TESTIMONIALS FOR WALKER COURT ASSOCIATES & KARL MOELLER
Robert G. Best, PhD, FACMG, Senior Laboratory Director, Labcorp
Karl stood out immediately from ACMG's great staff team when I stepped in as the interim CEO of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (2022 - 2023). Karl's role as the only full time staff member of ACMG's fundraising arm required an organizational-wide view and strong working knowledge of all our initiatives and departments. Tasked with building relationships, funding and strengthening programs, and managing all donor activities, Karl could meet with any partner and know just where to plug them in. His calm approach to problem solving, creative spirit, and stable leadership immediately stood out as exemplary. I found myself seeking his ideas on many occasions, and his insights were rock solid each time. During ACMG's Annual Meeting in 2023, I joined Karl at perhaps a dozen senior leadership meetings with our donor companies and watched him work. People skills are clearly a strong suit, and he's quick with the details and facts, too.
Laura Gordon, Owner, Laura Gordon Consulting / Former CEO, I-ACT for Children
I first heard about Karl's work back in about 2002, when he was organizing a coalition of for-profit and nonprofit organizations to advocate for adding preventive cardiovascular screenings to the Medicare benefit. He had just left the Hill, and used his smarts and tenacity to get that benefit added in about a year – no easy feat. Later, as a member of the Board of his nonprofit, CPH, I was continually impressed at how he won the attention of members of Congress, government agencies and public health opinion leaders through his creativity and strategic ideas – not to mention a lot of elbow grease. He’s a smart straight shooter who gets things done.
Tiffany Dent, VP at Scientific Technologies Corporation
I worked as Karl’s direct report and deputy for more than 4 years. I’m thankful for all he taught me and appreciate the diverse skills he brought to the company. He was a great mentor and teacher to the entire public sector team, and his positive attitude - even in difficult times - was a breath of fresh air. It was a terrific opportunity to watch him in the VP role as we approached new potential clients, sought new international markets, handled difficult staffing challenges, advanced federal advocacy efforts, addressed client concerns, and took on proposal writing. He oversaw the public sector group as we grew from a team of 5 to a department of nearly 20 staff members during his tenure. Each adjustment helped us move forward and was a testament to his ability to plan changes and then execute them. His positive influence will be felt for a long time to come.
Karen A. Goraleski, CEO, Emeritus, American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
Karl and I worked together to promote medical research and public health for over a decade. Fresh ideas are important, but they must be grounded in a knowledge and understanding of the field, and Karl has this skill set. In our joint work, I could count on him for ideas to spark a communications message and/or strategy. Then, he'd ensure that all the steps to bring it to life were done: engaging a graphic artist, the respective communications teams, and the partners. Public health messaging has many challenges, but Karl created a hard hitting ad campaign with a coalition of 20+ national organizations. This effort led to ads on the DC Metro system that brought attention to public health, medical research, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The driving force behind Walker Court Associates is Karl’s hard work and mission-driven spirit.
Dr. Manoj Menon, Chief Information Officer at Spotcheck, United Arab Emirates
Over a two-plus year period, Karl was the lead contact for his company during extensive international public-health software sales negotiations. Our company, Al Sulaiman Health, partnered with two US based software firms to win a contract with the Ministry of Health in the State of Qatar. Karl quickly became a respected leader within the group and often served as the conduit between the US teams and our partners in the Middle East. The week he spent in Qatar during our technical presentations to the Ministry of Health’s staff solidified his reputation as an honest broker. I am hopeful that he and I will be able to work together again soon.
Dr. Brent Pawlecki, MD, MMM, Chief Health Officer, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company
While directing the preventive health programs for the employees at Pitney Bowes, I was invited to join the Board of the new sister nonprofit Karl had recently established, The CPH Foundation. I was pleased to serve with Karl and the talented team he assembled to advance national awareness of prevention and public health programs. Karl’s natural talents at leading the Board of the Campaign, his expertise in managing budgets, and his keen sense of long-term and short-term strategy were impressive. He was adept at launching new programs, fundraising, and building coalitions.
I worked closely with Karl to organize a corporate health officer tour of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for approximately 40 leaders of some of the nation’s largest companies. All the participants were impressed with the caliber of Karl’s work, and the event was a great success.
Whenever I travel to DC for meetings, I always make an effort to cross paths with Karl for a cup of coffee and always enjoy hearing about his latest project.
Todd Watkins, President, Scientific Technologies Corporation
STC hired Walker Court Associates in 2014, asking Karl to serve as an Advisor to our Board of Director because of his vast public health policy experience. A year later we invited him to join our company as our Vice President of Public Health. Karl quickly organized his sales team and set up a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to track STC's sales to current and future clients. We still depend on that system today. He was a quick study, learning key aspects of the software industry in a matter of months. His talents as a hunter for new business are terrific, and his persistence and hard work brought in key contracts and millions in sales. His terrific work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership skills were an asset to STC. By the time he left the company, his team had grown to a sales team of five staff and expanded its scope to include Help Desk, Documentation, and our Public Health Research and Services Division. Karl is a proven leader and competent advisor.
[I am sad to report that Todd passed in February of 2024. I enjoyed working with him and wish his family all the very best.]
Jeffrey McIntyre, Mississippi Immunization Information System Manager
I worked with Karl for several years when he led the health IT vendor team serving our state agency. He has always been direct and honest with me and it was a breath of fresh air from a vendor. Any time I called him to elevate issues, he always listened and got to the root of any problem. He would delegate to the right people internally, and I knew he'd follow up to make sure things were up to our spec. His site visits were always very productive, as his easy manner with everyone in the room wasn't your typical vendor swagger. He's just a genuinely nice guy who gets along with the boss, the secretary, and everyone in between.
