Inspiration

In 2013, Karl purchased an abandoned carriage house in the historic district of Washington, DC's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

So began three years of negotiations with city government officials, utility companies, neighbors, and historic preservation society members. Thanks to his hard work, a visionary architect and skilled contractor were able to turn the abandoned storage building into a pair of boutique apartments. The completed building won design awards, received praise in Washingtonian Magazine, and was part of the 2023 Home and Garden Tour of Capitol Hill.

Karl lucratively managed the rental of both units on Airbnb for two years - earning a sold 5-star rating along with both "Superhost" and "Airbnb Plus" ratings. He privately sold the building in January of 2020, doubling his initial cash investment.

Fortitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a propensity to dream big isn't always the easy path, but it pays off in the end -- and is just more fun.
